Child Development evaluates a child’s language, motor and socio-emotional development, and makes timely treatment recommendations to services outside the MCH, including primary care physicians, schools, CLSCs and rehabilitation centres.
Services
We measure and assess skills and inefficiencies in language, motor and socio-emotional domains from infancy to preschool years, and then adolescence. We offer specialized evaluation of youth regarding developmental skills and abilities or particular behavioural concerns including but not limited to: complex developmental issues such as autism, multiple developmental delays, ADHD and learning disabilities; gender variance; developmental coordination disorder and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. We also provide psychopharmacological consultation, when necessary.
Our goal is to make sure appropriate recommendations are available to the family in order to provide continuity of care in community-based services (primary care physicians, schools, CLSCs, rehabilitation centres, etc.) This benefits the child and maximizes the acquisition of developmental skills.

Resources
Your local CLSC
Your local CLSC is a valuable resource for parents. You can contact the psychosocial support desk at your local CLSC to find out about stimulation programs, speech therapy, psychosocial support and more. You do not need a doctor’s referral to access these services.
Finances
If your child attends a non-profit childcare centre (CPE) or subsidized daycare, you may be eligible to receive extra financial assistance. Please ask your child’s daycare team about the Allowance for Integration into Childcare.
