The Brain, Development and Behaviour (BDB) service provides consultative services to children 0-17 years of age with complex developmental disabilities.

Services

Our multidisciplinary approach brings together healthcare professionals from different departments including Pediatrics, Genetics, Psychiatry, Audiology, Speech and Language Pathology, and many more. We have clinics for children ages 0-7 and children ages 7-17 as well as a gender variance clinic for children ages 8-17.


Referrals

To correctly and quickly orient children to the appropriate services within the hospital, all referrals from community physicians are received and systematically triaged by our BDB Centralized Intake team.

Please fill out the appropriate form (below) and send the requested documents to us using the form “Healthcare professional referral” (end of this page), ensuring that all relevant fields are completed.

  • Referral form for clinics 0-7
  • Referral form for clinics 7-17
  • Referral form for the Gender Variance Clinic
  • Referral form for the 13-17 Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinic
  • Professional evaluation reports and observation notes as well as any information that you believe is important for our consideration.
  • For school-aged children, a psychology report completed within the last two years.

Not eligible to receive care at our BDB clinics:

  • Children living off the Island of Montreal who are not already followed for associated medical conditions at the MCH. Please refer to your CIUSSS/CISSS for services in your region.
  • Children previously assessed who are receiving services for their impairment(s) in a rehabilitation centre or specialized school.

For children ages 0-7

The BDB 0-7 Clinic provides assessment services for children 0-7 years old with complex developmental disabilities requiring a multidisciplinary approach, including but not limited to:

  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Global developmental delay
  • Early developmental impairment
  • ADHD
  • Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
  • Developmental coordination disorder 
  • Other neurodevelopmental conditions

Eligible children who meet the age requirement and present with:

  • Symptoms of an autism spectrum disorder. They must not have been previously assessed in the public sector.
  • Moderate to severe developmental delays in more than one area.
  • Developmental coordination difficulties.

For children ages 7-17

The BDB 7-17 Clinic provides assessment and consultative services for children 7-17 years old with complex developmental disabilities requiring a multidisciplinary approach, including but not limited to:

  • Autism spectrum disorder 
  • ADHD
  • Developmental coordination disorder
  • Other neurodevelopmental conditions

Eligible children who meet the age requirement and present with:

  • Symptoms of an autism spectrum disorder. They must not have been previously assessed in the public sector.
  • Complex, treatment-resistant ADHD.
  • Developmental coordination difficulties.
