Research

Research interests

Dr. Jesse Papenburg – IDIGH Program, [email protected]

Dr Papenburg’s research focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of severe viral lower respiratory tract infections in children. He actively engages in knowledge translation in his field by contributing to national and provincial guidelines on RSV immunoprophylaxis, influenza antiviral treatment, and SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics and treatment. He is also a voting member of Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and chair of NACI’s influenza working group.

Research foci

  • Resource utilization in pediatric acute viral infections;
  • Diagnostics and biomarkers to distinguish viral and bacterial acute respiratory infections;
  • Diagnostic accuracy of point-of-care tests for for infectious diseases;
  • Prevention strategies for viral respiratory infections, including COVID-19, RSV and influenza;
  • Clinical impact of molecular diagnostics for respiratory viruses and CNS pathogens;
