The Psychology Department is thoroughly integrated into every facet of care of chronically ill children and their families and committed to the highest standard of care.

Eligible patients

Children (less than 18 years of age) who are regularly followed in a specialized medical clinic at our hospital and who:

• Present with mental health issues related to the medical condition OR
• Present with a brain based pathology that requires a cognitive/neuropsychological assessment.

Services

Psychologists are present when patients and families learn about diagnoses of serious illness, following trauma. They also provide follow-up support for patients with chronic illnesses. They assist patients and families in dealing with feelings of anxiety, hopelessness, pain and loss that arise from these diagnoses and help them develop various coping strategies. In addition, they help map out brain function and brain alterations due to illness or injuries to assist in the design of interventions in rehabilitation centres as well as school-based interventions.

Our programs are organized to provide services to a broad range of patients. 

Team

Our team of approximately 30 psychologists work within multidisciplinary teams to provide services on an inpatient and outpatient basis to all departments of the hospital.
