The NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at the Montreal Children’s Hospital is a reference centre for perinatal and neonatal care in the province of Quebec. Our level 3 NICU admits around 900 neonates a year, from all regions of the province, for issues related to prematurity, need for surgical intervention, therapeutic hypothermia and other complex medical conditions.
In our NICU, you may care for babies and infants with a wide range of conditions:
- Extremely-low gestational age (even under 23 weeks gestation)
- Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy requiring therapeutic hypothermia
- Congenital diaphragmatic hernia
- Complex congenital cardiac malformations
- Esophageal atresia and tracheo-esophageal fistulas
- Tracheostomies
- Gastroschisis
