Clinical social workers help families cope with the stress of hospitalization, illness or injury. Our social workers are specially trained to counsel families and advocate for them, assess patient and family psychosocial needs, provide various forms of counselling (i.e. crisis, therapeutic, group work, mediation, and grief) and assist with helping patients transition to home. We educate families and link them to community and government resources.
Services
We work in partnership with your child’s healthcare team to empower families and enhance their well-being. We are committed to our core values of protection and safety of all children and families, respect for cultural beliefs and practices, a family’s right to self-determination, open communication and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Social workers are assigned to medical and surgical units, the Trauma Service, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), mental health services, the Emergency Department and various outpatient clinics.
