Cardiology
The Division of Cardiology diagnoses and treats patients with illnesses that affect the heart and circulatory system. This includes children with arrhythmias, cardiac rhythm disturbances and heart murmurs.
Important information for patients
- As a complete evaluation involves multiple tests, please allow for 2-3 hours for your appointment.
- We encourage families to be on time to help us conduct the outpatient consultation as efficiently and completely as possible.
- Patients without valid medical insurance will be required to pay for services prior to receiving them.
Services
The MCH’s highly skilled team of cardiologists offers a wide range of lifesaving treatments, including:
- opening of blocked heart valves and narrowed or blocked vessels using a balloon
- implantation of stents to treat vascular obstructions
- closing abnormal blood vessels and connections in the heart
- closing of holes in the heart
- biopsies
- eliminating causes of cardiac rhythm disturbances
Our team also performs a variety of diagnostic tests such as:
- electrocardiogram (ECG) stress tests
- cardiac echocardiography (including fetal cardiac echocardiography)
- magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Our division also offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic fetal cardiology consultations and works in close collaboration with the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) unit of the McGill University Health Centre.
Young adults with significant cardiac conditions are referred to the MAUDE unit (McGill Adult Unit for Heart Disease), also at the Glen site.
Our patients benefit from the services of the Fondation En Coeur, a provincial organization that helps families of children with cardiac problems in Quebec.
The Montreal Children’s Hospital is linked to the provincial Telehealth network, and cardiac consultation services are offered to other health centres that are part of the network.
