Day Hospital

The Day Hospital provides an alternative to hospitalization for patients with on-going medical problems who are medically stable but who require medical assessments and treatments.

Services

We work towards:

• Completing investigations and treatments safely and effectively while allowing the child and youth to sleep at home.
• Providing an environment of care for children followed by sub-specialty services requiring chronic long-term therapies, e.g. IVIG, enzyme replacement therapies, IV antibiotics, etc.
• Providing specialized care for children requiring assessments, investigations, day treatments, teaching and coordination of care activities.
• Offering an alternative to Emergency Department visits and/or hospitalization for children referred from the community for investigations and/or urgent subspecialty consultations.
• Evaluation of children referred from the Emergency Department requiring semi-urgent clinical reassessments, investigations or treatments.

Referring a patient

The pediatric medical team of the Day Hospital can accept semi-urgent consults (children needing assessment within 1-2 weeks) only after patient case discussion.

If you think you have a patient requiring referral to our tertiary-care pediatric day hospital, please contact the hospital’s access care coordination center at 514-412-4242, to present the case and the desire to refer to the Day Hospital. You will then be directed to the correct team.

Please note that no patient will be accepted/ booked unless the referring physician has discussed the case with the day hospital pediatrician.

Team

The Day Hospital team consists of a pediatrician, medical and nursing trainees, pediatric nurse clinicians, a licenced practical nurse, child life specialist and a unit coordinator.
