Top 10 safety tips
Top 10 PICU Safety Tips for Parents & Visitors
- Please wash your hands frequently, especially when entering and exiting your child’s room.
Preventing unwanted infections is the best way to keep your child safe. - If you are sick (cough, runny nose, fever, diarrhea, vomiting…), please stay home, advise your child’s nurse, and reschedule your visit.
We are happy to provide you with the phone extensions to reach the PICU and your child’s room for updates. - Respect the maximum of two adults at a time on PICU 6, and four adults on PICU 8 in your child’s room.
If more visitors are present, please use the allotted family lounge, the PK Subban atrium or the cafeteria located on S1. Parents and guardians are welcome 24/7 & other visitors are welcome from 08h00-21h00. - Siblings or children who are visiting must always be supervised by adults and are not permitted to stay overnight.
- Only one parent can sleep in the pullout cot in the room.
The second parent may sleep in the room, but there is only one cot per room. Please have the pullout cot and sheets put away by 08h00. We ask that families not bring in mattresses/beds from home. - Parents are not permitted to sleep in the same bed as their child while hospitalized.
If you plan to stay at the hospital overnight, please use the pullout cot in the back of the room, or sit in a chair next to your child’s bed. - Raise the bedrails when you step away from your child’s crib or bed.
If there is a dome placed above your toddler’s crib, please keep the dome sides down and fully latched with the raised bedrails. - You are invited and encouraged to attend medical rounds for your child.
These occur every morning between 9h00-11h00 with our team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and nutritionists. Feel free to ask any questions. - Please keep the hallways clear.
For confidentiality and security reasons, we kindly ask if you are not in your child’s room, to feel free to use the family lounges, the cafeteria or the PK Subban atrium located on S1. - Ask those who enter your child’s room to introduce themselves and wash their hands if they have not already.
