Managing burn trauma in children and adolescents – a guide for parents and families
15 October 2013
Having a child in hospital with a burn can be a traumatic experience, and this booklet has been designed to provide patients, parents and families with information on what to expect during the different phases of hospitalization, treatment and recovery for the child or teenager.
Information on the range of burn care and the role of different specialists at specific points in the recovery process is discussed in detail.
Issues related to burn classification, stages of recovery, rehabilitation, return home, school reintegration and expected outcomes are also discussed.
We hope that burn trauma victims and families going through this difficult time will find the information answers their important questions and concerns, while preparing them for the steps ahead. It’s also a good tool for healthcare professionals working in this area of trauma care.
The content of this booklet reflects the experience and expertise of the Burn Program of the Trauma Centre of the Montreal Children’s Hospital, McGill University Health Centre.
