2025–2026 Accessibility Action Plan approved

The MUHC’s 2025–2026 Action Plan for Persons Living With Disabilities is now available. The plan highlights key achievements from 2024–2025 and sets priorities for the year ahead.  

Highlights from last year include: 

• stronger inclusive recruitment and increased representation of persons with disabilities
• expanded support for neurodivergent children at the Montreal Children’s Hospital
• new best practices and guidance on using sign language interpreters to better support Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients
• targeted training for MUHC staff and mandatory training for Institute employees to support inclusive and respectful care
• expanded educational resources, including 100+ digital and print titles and 24 plain-language documents adapted to different literacy levels
• an action plan to improve wheelchair accessibility across MUHC sites  

Priorities for 2025–2026: 

• Launch of the TumbleBooks platform.
• Installation of raised toilet seats at the Montreal General Hospital Emergency Department.
• Provide training and awareness initiatives for procurement staff to ensure accessibility needs are built into purchasing processes.  

To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, volunteers with the Accessibility Committee spent part of their workday in a wheelchair. Recommendations—including several no and low-cost improvements—will be submitted to Committee Sponsor and Director of Multidisciplinary Services, Valentine Weber.
