Celebrating Critical Care Transport Nurses at the MCH

When a newborn or child needs urgent care, Critical Care Transport Nurses at the Montreal Children’s Hospital are ready to respond – providing lifesaving support and comfort during some of the most critical moments for families.

For Transport Nurse Genevieve Beaudry, being part of the MCH and the MUHC is more than a job. “To me, We are the MUHC means belonging to a community that shares the same values of excellence, collaboration, and compassion. Every professional, no matter their role, contributes to patient care and supports each other. The MUHC isn’t just where I work – it feels like home,” she says.

Genevieve began her MUHC career in 2006 as a bedside nurse in the NICU at the Royal Victoria Hospital. In 2010, she moved to the NICU at the MCH with a goal: to become a transport nurse. Just months later, she joined the team – a dream come true. “Each transport reminds me of the trust placed in our team and the importance of seamless communication,” she shares.

The MUHC has three types of transport nurses:

NICU Transport Nurses, caring for critically ill newborns.
Pediatric Transport Nurses, a newer team operating for three years, providing urgent care for children, Monday to Friday, and alternating with Ste. Justine Hospital across a 250 km radius. “Every mission involves a multidisciplinary effort, with respiratory therapists and doctors working closely alongside transport nurses,” says Catherine Bouchard, Manager of Clinical Operations and Access to Care.
Internal Transport Nurses, who transfer patients between MUHC hospitals, such as those hospitalized at The Neuro, using a dedicated transport vehicle similar to an ambulance.

Whether it’s a newborn, a child, or a patient needing inter-hospital transfer, MUHC Critical Care Transport Nurses ensure patients arrive safely while offering comfort and reassurance. Their dedication and teamwork reflect the heart of the MUHC community.
