No fax, no hassle! The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) has just launched its new Referral Portal, an online service for patients who need a first-time appointment at the hospital. As of Monday, July 7, most medical specialties at the MCH are using the portal.
Staff were available that morning to walk parents and teenagers through the new system and answer questions. Some of the key benefits include:

The Referral Portal team was at the Montreal Children’s Hospital on Monday to show parents and patients how to use the portal. From left to right: Khaled Mehairy, Manal Boutchich, Nathalie Fréchette, Marjorie Paranada, Shari Beharry, Althea Robinson, Stavroula Kanavaros, Isabel Espanol.
“The portal is designed to make things easier for people needing to see a specialist at the MCH for the first time,” says Shari Beharry, manager of the Appointment and Referral Centre (ARC). “As our promo cards explain, all you have to do is fill out the online form, upload your referral, and click send.”
In line with Ministry of Health and Social Services guidelines, the MCH is gradually phasing out fax machines. Patients who need a first appointment at the hospital are encouraged to use the new portal to submit their request.

Dr. Tanya Di Genova, Associate Director of Medical and Professional Services at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, was also present for the launch of the MCH Referral Portal. Left, with Nathalie Frechette, Shari Beharry, and Isabel Espanol.
