Due to the icy conditions and freezing rain currently affecting the region, power outages may occur across the Island of Montreal.
Some residents may try to use portable heating or cooking devices, which poses a risk of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Remember that fuel-powered devices — such as those using oil, gas, wood, gasoline, charcoal, propane, etc. — must not be used indoors. Similarly, equipment intended for outdoor use, such as barbecues or camping gear, should never be used inside.
Carbon monoxide is a toxic, odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas produced by combustion. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, visual disturbances, nausea, and vomiting.
