Dr. Jesse Papenburg appointed as Chair of the Comité sur l’immunisation du Québec

The Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) announces the appointment of Dr. Jesse Papenburg as Chair of the Comité sur l’immunisation du Québec (CIQ). He will take office on Monday, September 22, 2025. He succeeds Dr. Caroline Quach, who has held this position for nearly seven years over the past 10 years.

Dr. Papenburg has been a member of the CIQ since 2022. He has also been a member of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization since 2019, where he leads the influenza working group.

A pediatrician, infectious disease specialist and microbiologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Dr. Papenburg earned his medical degree from McGill University. He completed his residency and subspecialty training at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. He then pursued additional training in molecular virology at Université Laval and obtained a master’s degree in epidemiology from McGill University.

As a clinician-researcher, Dr. Papenburg works primarily on the epidemiology of viral respiratory infections. He is the author of more than 175 peer-reviewed publications. He is vice-chair of the Paediatric Investigator Collaborative Network on Infections in Canada and co-director of the MUHC Vaccine Study Centre. In 2022, his scientific outreach, commentary and promotion of health in the mainstream media were recognized with the President’s Prize for Public Engagement through Media.
