Services

The Division of Pediatric Neurology provides care for children with challenging and complex neurological conditions. 

Our clinics:

  • Epilepsy or convulsive disorders
  • Suspected neurodevelopmental disabilities (global developmental disabilities, intellectual disability, and cerebral palsy but NOT autism, developmental language impairment, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or learning disability)
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Headaches that are resistant to treatment with at least one prophylactic agent and are disabling
  • Complex movement disorders but NOT motor or phonic tics or Tourette Syndrome that have not required treatment with medication
  • neurogenetic and neurometabolic disorders
  • neurocutaneous disorders
  • demyelinating disorders and multiple sclerosis
  • stroke
  • neuroinflammatory disorders
  • brain and spinal cord tumours
  • high-risk survivors of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • We do not see febrile seizures either typical or atypical
  • We do not see breath holding spells
  • We do not see behavioural disorders
  • Children with syncope, absences, staring spells or ‘spasms’ should an EEG prior to referral to expedite appropriate triaging, assessment and accurate diagnosis

The Neurophysiology Lab

The Neurophysiology Laboratory offers testing and monitoring of symptoms related to seizures, paroxysmal disorders and neuromuscular diseases. The lab performs a variety of tests, including EEG, evoked potentials, and electromyography and nerve conduction studies.

The ICONIC program

ICONIC is a clinical program for personalized genetic diagnosis and treatment for children with neurological disorders aimed at improving outcomes for children and families, and enabling rapid discovery-to-practice translation through links to integrated research programs.
