Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at the Montreal Children’s Hospital is dedicated to ensuring the safe and optimal use of medications for hospitalized children and those receiving outpatient care. Our team consists of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy technical assistants who work closely together.

Care

Pharmacists collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy. They also provide information and education to patients, their families, and healthcare professionals, and participate in the care of specialized patient populations as well as in clinical trials.

Services

Pharmacy technicians and pharmacy technical assistants are responsible for the safe preparation, distribution, and management of medications. Every day, they prepare, among other things:

  • Tablets, capsules, and liquid formulations
  • Intravenous (IV) antibiotics
  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
  • Chemotherapy medications
  • Other sterile and non-sterile preparations

We also care for specialized outpatient populations and patients involved in clinical drug studies.
