MUHC receives accreditation from Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy

19 November 2025

The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) has received internationally-recognized accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). “This achievement reflects the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of many teams across the MUHC,” says Alain Biron, Director of Nursing. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this success—from frontline staff to administrative and support teams. Your commitment to excellence in patient care and cellular therapy has made this milestone possible.”

FACT is a globally respected accrediting body for hospitals and medical institutions offering stem cell transplant services. This accreditation signifies that the MUHC has met the most rigorous standards across the entire spectrum of stem cell therapy—from clinical care to donor management, cell collection, processing, storage, transportation, administration, and cell release.

The accreditation process involved a comprehensive inspection by a team of inspectors who reviewed all core sites and several departments that play a vital role in patient care, including:

  • Cell Separator Unit/Apheresis Unit
  • Inpatient Hematology-Oncology-Stem Cell Transplant Units D10 and B07 (adult and pediatric)
  • Oncology Day Centres (adult and pediatric)
  • Cellular Therapy Coordination teams (adult and pediatric)
  • Cellular Therapy Quality Assurance team
  • Stem Cell Laboratory
  • Transfusion Services
  • Oncology Pharmacy Department
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments (ER)
  • Pediatric Operating Rooms (OR)
  • Adult and Pediatric Intensive Care Units (ICU/PICU)
  • Building Services, Biomedical Engineering, Housekeeping
  • And last but not least, all of our specialized medical teams and dedicated support services!

Congratulations to everyone involved!
