When my child turns 18: financial, legal and medical discussions related to transitioning patients who have an intellectual impairment

25 October 2013

When teenagers with intellectual impairments turn 18, they graduate from pediatric to adult care. Despite their age, however, they will still need complete access to a variety of healthcare services to ensure that their transition is a smooth one.

Join us for an evening of discussion about some of the financial, legal and medical topics related to transitioning from pediatric to adult health care for young adults who have an intellectual impairment.

Speakers:

  • Testimonial from a parent of a young adult who has lived through the move to Adult Care
  • Danny Williams, Financial Security Advisor
  • Pierre Fregeau, Attorney
  • Julie Levesque, Notary
  • Representative from WIAIH (West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped) Community Services
  • Heather Davies, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Neurology department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital
  • Sheila Koutsogianopoulos, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Epilepsy Program, Montreal Neurological Hospital

Presentations will be in English, and the question period will be bilingual. For more information about this event, please email [email protected]
