Dr. Karine Gauthier elected President of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec

3 June 2026

The Ordre des psychologues du Québec announces the election of Dr. Karine Gauthier, Psychologist, as its president. An experienced clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist, Dr. Gauthier has worked at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) as a psychologist for close to 20 years and has had a profound impact on her patients and their families. She has also been an invaluable support and leader to colleagues, students and the MCH Psychology Division as a whole.

Dr. Gauthier was elected by universal suffrage among the Order’s members and thus succeeds Dr. Christine Grou, Psychologist.

Recognized for her unifying leadership and her commitment to ensuring access to psychological services within the health and education systems, Dr. Gauthier has over 20 years of clinical experience, particularly with children, adolescents and their families. She has primarily worked within interdisciplinary teams at the MCH. In addition to her clinical practice, she has supervised numerous doctoral students in psychology while providing training to psychologists.

In 2019, Dr. Gauthier helped found the Coalition des psychologues du réseau public québécois, which she chaired until 2026. She has made significant contributions to discussions regarding access to psychological care, the organization of services within the healthcare system, the optimization of psychology education and educational success.

“I warmly thank the psychologists of Québec for their trust. I am honored to represent this essential and deeply human profession and to contribute, with rigor and commitment, to the Order’s fundamental mission of protecting the public. It is therefore with a deep sense of responsibility and determination that I intend to serve as president of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec,” stated Dr. Karine Gauthier.

Dr. Gauthier holds a Ph.D. in psychology from McGill University and is also recognized for her skills as a public communicator, having made over 350 media appearances in recent years. In 2025, she published the book Les antidépresseurs ne règlent pas tout : Mieux soutenir la santé mentale de nos jeunes.

“Psychological health issues are at the heart of the major challenges facing our society and psychologists across all practice sectors have a central role to play. Raising public awareness of the many dimensions of mental health issues will foster a better understanding of needs and appropriate resources. In a context where access to psychological services is a major challenge, I intend to work with the various stakeholders to identify concrete and sustainable solutions to better meet the needs of the population,” adds Dr. Gauthier.

Congratulations to Dr. Gauthier on this well-deserved appointment!
