The MCH has a new ambassador!
4 October 2024
After nursing, it’s time for the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) allied health services to have their very own ambassador! Meet Michela Martiniello, who represents the Social Work, Psychology, Psychoeducation and Spiritual Care Divisions at the MCH.
The goal of the ambassador position is to promote the hospital’s mission, vision and values while connecting with prospective employees and students. The ambassador promotes the various allied health divisions and helps demystify what it is like to work in a tertiary care institution as an allied health professional. The objective is to have a real person who is available to answer questions and support prospective employees, while sharing their own experiences, tips and insights. The allied health ambassador works closely with nursing ambassador, Atif Abbas.
“Six years ago when I did my master’s internship at the MCH, I knew instantly that I would want to come back to work here when I graduated. I fell in love with the passion, interdisciplinary collaboration and dedication to providing excellent care to patients and their families. I received very strong clinical support and mentorship during my internship which allowed me to develop hands-on skills that went beyond what I learned in the classroom and led to the beginning of my career as a social worker,” explains Michela.
“I have enjoyed my internship and five-year career so much that when I was asked to be the psychosocial ambassador, I jumped at the opportunity to share with the community all of the reasons why the MCH is an amazing place to work!”
Michela has a master’s degree in social work, completed with internships at the MCH and with youth protection services. In her six years at the MCH, she worked with many teams. She started her internship in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and with the Trauma Centre, and then came back as an employee in the Adolescent Medicine Division’s Sexual Abuse Clinic.
Subsequently, she found her passion working in mental health and joined the psychiatry team in the Emergency Department. She recently started a new assignment on the inpatient Psychiatry Unit, helping adolescents and their families while they are admitted to the hospital.
“Being able to experience different assignments has really allowed me to grow as a worker and sharpen my clinical skills across different domains. I am grateful to the MCH for all the learning opportunities and the support in becoming the specialized clinician that I am today,” she adds.
