Trauma
The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is a provincially designated Pediatric and Adolescent Trauma Centre, a Neurotrauma Centre of Expertise and an important player in the provincial trauma network.
MCH Trauma Centre
To ensure rapid access to expertise, all transfer requests from referring hospitals to the Trauma Centre must go through the Access Care Coordination Centre (ACC).
The referring emergentologist must communicate the transfer request to the ACC at 514-412-4242. An automated system will be activated; press 1 for trauma.
Initial pre-transfer documents MUST be faxed to the Emergency Department Green Zone at 514-412-4217.
Services
The Montreal Children’s Hospital of the MUHC is a supra-regional provincially designated Tertiary Care Level Trauma Centre and a Neurotrauma Centre of Expertise, with five inter-professional clinical programs:
- Neurotrauma Program
- Trauma Program
- Burn Trauma Program
- Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Program and Concussion Clinic
- Trauma Team Leader Program
The MCH Trauma Centre’s approach to trauma care is inter-professional and involves the interplay and close collaboration of more than 30 departments and services. This practice takes place from the patient’s initial arrival in the Emergency Department, through the critical care phases, early rehabilitation and recovery stages and eventual transfer to an appropriate Rehabilitation Centre, community resource or return home with comprehensive coordinated follow-up care.
Rapid access to expert medical, surgical, nursing, rehabilitation and psychosocial trauma care, state-of-the-art equipment and a well-developed efficient and innovative trauma care system is paramount to increasing the chances of a positive outcome.
